# Understand the referral holding period

Why earned referral rewards wait before they can be paid, and what happens after the hold.

## Why rewards wait
yaya holds each referral reward for 30 days from the referred owner's payment. This gives time to check for refunds and fraud before paying the reward.

During the holding period, the reward appears in **Owed to you** and **Upcoming**, but cannot be paid. A full refund of the referred payment removes its held reward from your owed total.

## After the holding period
Once the hold ends, the reward can be paid through your connected payout method. The end of the hold does not send a payment automatically. yaya sends the payout and records it in **Paid out**.

## Check your rewards
1. Open **Referrals** in your workspace.
2. Check **Your stats** for owed and paid totals.
3. Open **Settings** to see whether a payout method is connected.
