# Buy a domain through yaya

Check a name, see the first-year price, buy it and follow the purchase until the domain is connected to your site.

## Before you start
- A paid plan (Launch or Grow). On the Free plan this page shows **Upgrade to a paid plan** instead of the search.
- You are a workspace owner. Other roles can check a name but see "Only the workspace owner can buy a domain."
- A name in mind, like `my-shop.com`.

## Check a name
1. Open the **Get a domain and publish** dialog when you publish, or go to the domain purchase page from the command palette with **Buy a domain**.
2. Click **Get a custom domain**.
3. Type the name in **Domain name**.
4. Click **Check availability**.

yaya answers "looks available", "is already taken" or "could not be checked". For an available name it shows the price for the first year.

The publish dialog also suggests names built from your business name. Click one to check it.

## Buy the name
1. Click **Buy this domain** under the result.
2. Wait for yaya to register it right away, if your plan covers the name. You go to your domains page, where the new domain has its own card.
3. Pay on the payment page yaya opens if your plan does not cover the name.
4. Return to yaya from the payment page. A purchase card follows the order until it is done.

Your first domain is included on a paid plan. A name that costs more than the included amount goes to the payment page for the rest.

## Follow the purchase
The card updates on its own. It shows one of these titles.

- **Payment pending.** yaya is waiting for the payment to confirm.
- **Registering** and the name. Payment is in. yaya is registering the domain and attaching it to your site.
- **Registration hit a problem.** yaya is trying again. Nothing is attached to your site until it works.
- **The name is registered and connected.** The domain is attached to your site. It can take a few minutes to start serving.
- **We could not register** the name. No domain was attached. Email support@yaya.page and yaya will sort out the payment.
- **Checkout did not complete.** Nothing was charged and the name was not added. Click **Try again** to buy it again.

Click **Go to your domains** to open the domain page. After it is connected you can [make it primary](/support/articles/domains/check-domain-status-and-ssl).

## Questions
**The name says "could not be checked".** The registrar did not answer. Click **Check availability** again in a moment.

**The page says "Buying a domain is not open on this site yet."** Registration is switched off for this workspace's site. You can [connect a domain you already own](/support/articles/domains/connect-a-domain) on any plan.

**It says "We could not register that domain and nothing was charged."** Pick another name and check it again.

**It says "That checkout just ended."** Click **Buy this domain** again.

**I closed the payment page.** The page says "Checkout was canceled" and that nothing was charged. Buy again when you are ready.

**Is the first domain free?** Yes on a paid plan, up to the included amount. The screen shows the price before you buy.

**I want a free address.** Choose **Use a yaya domain** in the publish dialog. Your site lives at yourname.yayasite.com.
