# Edit DNS records at Cloudflare

Open the DNS Records page in Cloudflare and add the CNAME and TXT records yaya shows. A bare domain works with a CNAME on the at sign.

## Before you start
- Any plan. Connecting a domain you own is free on Free, Launch and Grow.
- A Cloudflare login and a published yaya site.
- The **DNS steps** from yaya. Open **Website** > **Domain**, type the name in **Hostname** and click **Connect domain**.

Edit the records at Cloudflare only if Cloudflare runs the DNS for the domain. If another company runs it, edit the records there.

## Sign in and find the DNS page
1. Sign in to the Cloudflare dashboard.
2. Select the domain.
3. Open the **DNS Records** page.

Cloudflare's guides do not list the side menu labels, so look for **DNS** or **Records** in the domain's menu.

## What the screen calls the fields
- **Type**: CNAME or TXT.
- **Name**: a subdomain such as `www`, or `@` for the bare domain.
- **Target**: the field for a CNAME. Paste the target from yaya.
- **Proxy status**: **Proxied** or **DNS only**.
- **TTL**: leave it on the default.

## Add the CNAME record for a subdomain or www
1. Click **Add record**.
2. Set **Type** to **CNAME**.
3. Type `www` in **Name**.
4. Paste the target from yaya in **Target**.
5. Set **Proxy status** to **DNS only** (gray cloud). This is yaya's recommendation, not a Cloudflare rule. With DNS only, traffic goes to yaya directly.
6. Click **Save**.

## Connect the bare domain
Cloudflare supports a CNAME at the bare domain. Cloudflare flattens a CNAME at the root automatically.

1. Click **Add record** and set **Type** to **CNAME**.
2. Type `@` in **Name**.
3. Paste the target from yaya in **Target**.
4. Set **Proxy status** to **DNS only** (yaya's recommendation) and click **Save**.

## Add the TXT ownership record
yaya shows a name that starts with `_cf-custom-hostname`. Type the full name that yaya shows.

1. Click **Add record** and set **Type** to **TXT**.
2. Type the full name in **Name**, like `_cf-custom-hostname.www.example.com`.
3. Paste the value from yaya in **Content**.
4. Click **Save**.

Cloudflare adds the quotation marks around TXT text if you leave them out.

## Replace a conflicting record
An A or AAAA record cannot share a name with a CNAME record. Delete the old A or AAAA record for the same name, then add the CNAME.

Leave MX records and mail TXT records as they are. See [Keep your email working](/support/articles/migrate/keep-your-email-working).

## Check the result in yaya
1. Open **Website** > **Domain**.
2. Click **Check again**.

DNS can take minutes to a few hours. yaya sets up HTTPS on its own. There is no deploy step.

## Fix common problems
**The site does not connect.** Check that the record is on **DNS only**, as yaya recommends.

**The card stays on "Waiting on DNS".** See [Fix a domain that won't verify](/support/articles/domains/fix-a-domain-that-wont-verify).

**I want yaya to run all the DNS.** See [Move your DNS to yaya](/support/articles/domains/move-dns-to-yaya).
