# Edit DNS records at Gandi

Add the CNAME, ALIAS and TXT records yaya needs in the DNS Records tab at Gandi.

## Before you start
- Any plan. Connecting a domain you own is free on every plan.
- A Gandi login and a published yaya site.
- The domain uses Gandi LiveDNS name servers. With other name servers, edit the records at that provider.

In yaya, open **Website** > **Domain**, type the name in **Hostname**, and click **Connect domain**. Keep the **DNS steps** open.

## Sign in and find the DNS page
1. Sign in to Gandi.
2. Click **Domain** in the left menu.
3. Click your domain name.
4. Open the **DNS Records** tab.

## What the screen calls the fields
The table has a green **Add** button. A dialog asks for the host and the destination. Gandi pages do not name each box.

The text mode shows the zone file.
1. Click **Edit DNS Records**.
2. Edit the zone.
3. Click **Save**.

In the zone file:
- The name is relative to your domain. Use `@` for the bare domain and `www` for www.
- A CNAME or ALIAS target must end with a final dot. Gandi says the record does not work without it.
- A TXT value goes in double quotes.

## Add the CNAME record for a subdomain or www
1. Click **Add**.
2. Choose **CNAME**.
3. Type `www` as the name.
4. Type the target from yaya as the destination, then a final dot, like `<target>.`.
5. Confirm.

A CNAME overrides every other record at the same name. Gandi says the others are ignored.

## Use the bare domain
Gandi supports an **ALIAS** record on the bare domain. It needs LiveDNS name servers.
1. Click **Add** and choose **ALIAS**. If the dialog does not list it, use text mode.
2. Type `@` as the name.
3. Type the yaya value as the destination. End it with a dot.
4. Confirm.

Two limits apply. The bare domain cannot already have an A or AAAA record. An ALIAS also breaks DNSSEC on the bare domain. If you use DNSSEC, use the www fallback.

For the fallback, connect `www.example.com` and add the CNAME. Then open the domain and its **Web Forwarding** tab. Click **Create** and forward the bare domain to `www.example.com`.

Gandi supports HTTPS on a forward. See [Use a subdomain or www](/support/articles/domains/use-a-subdomain-or-www).

## Add the TXT ownership record
yaya shows a name that starts with `_cf-custom-hostname.`.
1. Click **Add** and choose **TXT**.
2. Type `_cf-custom-hostname.www` as the name. Do not type the domain after it.
3. Paste the yaya value. In text mode, put it in double quotes.
4. Confirm.

For the bare domain, type `_cf-custom-hostname`.

## Delete or replace a conflicting record
1. Find the old record for the same name in the table.
2. Click the green pencil to change it, or the red trash icon to delete it.
3. Confirm.

Delete an old A or AAAA record on `@` before you add an ALIAS.

## Check the result in yaya
1. Open **Website** > **Domain**.
2. Click **Check again**.

Gandi says a change can take up to 72 hours.

yaya sets up HTTPS on its own. There is no deploy step. Leave your mail records as they are. See [Keep your email working](/support/articles/migrate/keep-your-email-working).

## Fix common problems
**ALIAS is not offered.** The domain uses Classic name servers. ALIAS works only with LiveDNS.

**The record does not resolve.** Check the final dot on the target.

**Still waiting.** See [Fix a domain that won't verify](/support/articles/domains/fix-a-domain-that-wont-verify) and [DNS records explained](/support/articles/domains/dns-records-explained).
