## Before you start
- Any plan. Connecting a domain you own is free on Free, Launch and Grow.
- A Hostinger login and a published yaya site.
- The **DNS steps** from yaya. Open **Website** > **Domain**, type the name in **Hostname** and click **Connect domain**.

The domain must use Hostinger nameservers for the records to take effect. If it does not, edit the records at the company that runs the DNS.

## Sign in and find the DNS page
1. Sign in to Hostinger.
2. Choose **Domains**, select the domain and open **DNS / Nameservers**. Use this path for a domain with no hosting plan.
3. Open the DNS zone editor for the domain. Hostinger's guide names **Websites** > your site > **Advanced** > **DNS Zone Editor** for a hosting plan.

## What the screen calls the fields
- **Type**: CNAME or TXT.
- **Name**: the host, like `www`. Use `@` for the bare domain.
- **Points to**: where a CNAME points. Paste the target from yaya. Hostinger calls this value **content** in the add form and **target** when you edit.
- **TXT value**: the field for a TXT record.
- **TTL**: leave the default.

## Add the CNAME record for a subdomain or www
1. Open the DNS zone editor.
2. Choose **CNAME** as the record type.
3. Type `www` in **Name**.
4. Paste the target from yaya in **Points to**. Use a name, not a URL.
5. Click **Add Record**.

## Connect the bare domain
Hostinger turns a CNAME on the bare domain into an ALIAS record.

1. Choose **CNAME** as the record type.
2. Type `@` in **Name**.
3. Paste the target from yaya in **Points to**.
4. Click **Add Record**. The record then shows as an ALIAS.

The root domain can hold only one ALIAS. If one exists, edit it. Hostinger's CDN also creates an ALIAS, so turn the CDN off first.

## Add the TXT ownership record
yaya shows a name that starts with `_cf-custom-hostname`. Type only the part before your domain name.

1. Choose **TXT** as the record type.
2. Type `_cf-custom-hostname.www` in **Name** for `www.example.com`. For the bare domain, type `_cf-custom-hostname`.
3. Paste the value from yaya in **TXT value**.
4. Click **Add Record**.

## Replace a conflicting record
Delete any A, AAAA or CNAME record that uses `@` or `www` before you add yours. Click the trash icon next to the record, then **Delete**. To change a record instead, edit it and click **Update**.

Leave MX and mail TXT records as they are. See [Keep your email working](/support/articles/migrate/keep-your-email-working).

## Check the result in yaya
1. Open **Website** > **Domain**.
2. Click **Check again**.

Hostinger says changes can take up to 24 hours. yaya sets up HTTPS on its own. There is no deploy step.

## Fix common problems
**The zone editor is missing or does not save.** Check that the domain uses Hostinger nameservers.

**The card stays on "Waiting on DNS".** See [Fix a domain that won't verify](/support/articles/domains/fix-a-domain-that-wont-verify).

**I want yaya to run all the DNS.** See [Move your DNS to yaya](/support/articles/domains/move-dns-to-yaya).
