## What yaya shows you
A DNS record tells the internet where a name points. When you connect a domain, yaya lists the records to add under **DNS steps**. A subdomain looks like this.

```
Add CNAME: shop.example.com → <target shown by yaya>
CNAME target: <target shown by yaya>
```

A bare domain asks for a flattening record.

```
Add ALIAS/ANAME (CNAME flattening): example.com → <target shown by yaya>
```

yaya may also ask for a TXT record that proves you own the name. It reads `Add TXT <name> → <value>`. Copy both parts.

## The fields at your provider
- **Type**: CNAME, ALIAS, ANAME or TXT.
- **Name** or **Host**: the part before your domain. `@` means the bare domain.
- **Value** or **Target**: where it points.
- **TTL**: how long other servers remember it. Automatic is fine.

## Edit records inside yaya
If yaya manages DNS for the domain, a **DNS records** table appears with **Type**, **Name**, **Value** and **TTL**. Records marked **Locked** are needed for your site or mail. You can change the others.

1. Click **Add a record**.
2. Choose a **Type**: A, AAAA, CNAME, MX or TXT.
3. Fill in **Name** and **Value**.
4. Click **Save record**.

**Common tasks** has starters for a subdomain, a verification code, Google Workspace mail and Microsoft 365 mail.

## Fix common problems
**No DNS records table.** Your records live at your domain provider. Edit them there.

**A record I added will not delete.** Locked records cannot be changed. See [Fix a domain that won't verify](/support/articles/domains/fix-a-domain-that-wont-verify).
