# Transfer a domain in to yaya

Move a domain you own from another registrar to yaya with its authorization code, then follow the transfer to completion.

## Before you start
- A paid plan (Launch or Grow). On the Free plan the button opens an upgrade prompt. You can still [connect the domain](/support/articles/domains/connect-a-domain) for free.
- You are a workspace owner.
- Login access at the domain's current registrar.
- The domain is more than 60 days old. A name registered or moved in the last 60 days is blocked by the registry.

A transfer moves the registration itself. If you only want your site on the name, connecting is simpler and the domain stays where it is.

## Get the code at the old registrar
1. Log in at your current registrar.
2. Remove the transfer lock on the domain.
3. Turn off privacy protection. It can hide the code.
4. Copy the transfer authorization code. It is also called the EPP or auth code.

## Start the transfer
1. Open **Website** > **Domain**.
2. Click **Transfer a domain in**.
3. Type the name in **Domain**, like `shop.com`. Leave out https:// and any path.
4. Paste the code into **Authorization code**.
5. Click **See the price**.
6. Read the price and the steps. The price includes one more year of registration.
7. Paste the code again and click **Start transfer and pay**.
8. Pay on the payment page.
9. Open the email your old registrar sends and approve the transfer.

yaya never shows the code again after you start, so paste it again if you need to retry. Your site keeps working while the domain moves.

## Follow the transfer
The domain page shows a card with one of these titles.

- **Waiting for payment.** Finish checkout. An unpaid transfer is cancelled after about half an hour and nothing is charged.
- **Waiting on the old registrar.** Approve the confirmation email, or remove the transfer lock if the card says the domain is still locked.
- **Transfer on its way.** The old registrar released the domain. It usually lands within a few days.
- **Transfer complete.** The domain is with yaya. yaya finishes the last setup steps for you.
- **Transfer failed.** The other registrar refused it. yaya refunds your payment. Check the lock, get a fresh code and try again.
- **Transfer cancelled.** Nothing was charged, or the payment was refunded. Start it again when you are ready.

## Fix common problems
**"That domain is locked at its current registrar."** Remove the transfer lock there, then try again. Nothing was charged.

**"That auth code was not accepted."** Turn off privacy protection, copy a fresh code and try again. Nothing was charged.

**"The auth code has a space in it."** Copy it again from your registrar.

**The registrar has no record of the domain.** Check the spelling, or buy it as a new domain. See [Buy a domain through yaya](/support/articles/domains/buy-a-domain).

**The name is not carried.** yaya cannot transfer some endings. Connect the domain instead.

**I do not see Transfer a domain in.** Only owners see it.
