# Read a message and download attachments

Open a mailbox thread, read the message and save its attachments.

## Open a message
1. Click **Inbox** in the left rail.
2. Click a row where the **Source** column says **mailbox**.
3. Read the message. The header shows the sender, the recipient and the time.

Opening a thread marks it read. The unread dot and the count next to **Inbox** update.

## Download an attachment
1. Open the message.
2. Find the **Attachments** panel next to the message.
3. Click the file name. The file downloads to your computer.

Each file shows its type and size. Only attachments on received mail are listed.

## Follow the conversation
When a thread has more than one message, an **In this conversation** panel lists the others. Click one to open it.

## How messages display
HTML emails render with scripts and forms removed, and links open in a new tab. A plain text email shows as text.

## Fix common problems
**An attachment is missing.** yaya does not store files over 10 MB. The message still arrives. Ask the sender to share it by link.

**A whole email is missing.** A message over 25 MB in total is rejected. See [Emails not arriving](/support/articles/troubleshooting/emails-not-arriving).

**"Mail is visible to owners and editors."** Your role is Member. Ask an owner to make you an Admin.

**"Mail is unavailable right now."** The list could not load mail. Contact-form messages still show. Try again in a few minutes.
