How to get your small business found in AI answers
People now ask AI assistants where to eat, who to hire and what to buy. The assistant names a few businesses. This guide shows how to make yours one of them.
No step here guarantees a mention. Each step makes your site easier to read for people and for machines. Allow about two hours in total.
Step 1: Say what you do in the first paragraph
Open your home page with one plain sentence. Name your service, your town and who you serve. For example: "Rosa's Bakery bakes sourdough and pastries in Alfama, Lisbon."
Step 2: Keep your details the same everywhere
Use one spelling of your name, address and phone number. Use it on your site, your Google Business Profile and every directory. Different versions make it harder for a machine to trust the facts.
Step 3: Add structured data
Structured data is code that states your facts in a fixed format. Use the local business schema generator. Paste the result into your page head.
Step 4: Answer real questions
List the questions customers ask you. Write each answer in two or three sentences. Put them on an FAQ page. Then mark them up with the FAQ schema generator.
Step 5: Let the crawlers in
Open your robots.txt file. Check that it does not block the search and AI crawlers you want. The robots.txt generator lets you choose which crawlers to allow.
Step 6: Add an llms.txt file
An llms.txt file gives AI tools a short summary of your site. It is optional. Read what llms.txt is before you decide.
Step 7: Check what assistants say
Ask three assistants the question a customer would ask. Write down which businesses they name. Repeat each month. Note what changes after you edit your site.
