Edit DNS records at Porkbun

Where to find DNS records at Porkbun, what the fields are called, and how to add the records yaya needs.

Last updated

Before you start

  • Any plan. Connecting a domain you own is free on Free, Launch and Grow.
  • A Porkbun login and a published yaya site.
  • The DNS steps from Website > Domain in yaya. Keep that page open.

Sign in and find the DNS page

  1. Sign in to Porkbun. You land on Domain Management. If not, click ACCOUNT at the top right and choose Domain Management.
  2. Find your domain and click Details at the far right.
  3. Click the edit icon next to DNS Records.

The Manage DNS Records page lists the current records.

What the screen calls the fields

  • Type: the record type.
  • Host: the subdomain only. Porkbun also calls it the host name.
  • Answer/Value: where the record points.
  • TTL: how long other servers remember the record.

Type only the label in Host, such as www. Leave it blank for the bare domain.

Add the CNAME record for a subdomain or www

  1. Copy the CNAME target from yaya.
  2. Click Add Record on Manage DNS Records.
  3. Choose CNAME as the Type.
  4. Type www (or your subdomain) in Host.
  5. Paste the target in Answer/Value.
  6. Click Add.

The bare domain

Porkbun supports an ALIAS record, shown as ALIAS - CNAME flattening.

  1. Click Add Record.
  2. Choose ALIAS - CNAME flattening as the Type.
  3. Leave Host blank. Porkbun says this record has a blank host field.
  4. Paste the target from yaya in Answer/Value, then click Add.

Add the TXT ownership record

  1. Choose TXT as the Type.
  2. Type _cf-custom-hostname.www in Host. Use your own host after the dot. For the bare domain, type _cf-custom-hostname.
  3. Paste the value from yaya in Answer/Value, then click Add.

Delete or replace a conflicting record

A CNAME or ALIAS cannot share a host with another record. A new Porkbun domain carries default records that point to pixie.porkbun.com. Delete them with the trash can icon before you add the new record.

To fix a record that gives an error, Porkbun suggests that you delete it and add it again. Do not add NS records here to change name servers.

Leave MX and TXT mail records as they are. See Keep your email working.

Check the result in yaya

  1. Click Back and confirm the new record shows in the list.
  2. Open Website > Domain in yaya and click Check again.

DNS can take minutes to hours. yaya sets up HTTPS on its own. There is no deploy step.

Fix common problems

The page says "A CNAME or ALIAS record with that host already exists." Delete the old record for the same host. Then add the new one.

The card stays on "Waiting on DNS". See Fix a domain that won't verify.
