Edit DNS records at Register.it

Before you start

• Any plan. Connecting a domain you own is free on every plan.
• A Register.it login and a published yaya site.
• The domain uses Register.it name servers. Other name servers cannot use these screens.

In yaya, open Website > Domain, type the name in Hostname, and click Connect domain. Keep the DNS steps open.

Take care with mail. If you change the MX record to a server other than mail.register.it, Register.it deletes the domain's mailboxes after at least 7 days. Do not touch MX records.

Sign in and find the DNS page

1. Sign in at controlpanel.register.it.
2. Under I TUOI PRODOTTI, click the name of your domain.
3. Click the first icon, DOMINIO & DNS.
4. Click Configurazione DNS.
5. Open the DNS zone editor.

The Register.it pages are in Italian. The names in this article are the ones on the screen.

What the screen calls the fields

The table has three boxes.

• Nome is the host. It is the first box.
• Tipo is a list with A, CNAME and MX.
• Valore is the value. It is the last box.

The buttons are AGGIUNGI RECORD and SALVA. Register.it pages do not say if the screen adds the domain to Nome for you. Type the short name, such as www. After you save, read the row.

Add the CNAME record for a subdomain or www

The standard editor makes a CNAME that points to a record in the same domain. A CNAME to an outside host such as yaya belongs in Gestione DNS avanzata. Register.it pages do not describe the fields of that screen.

1. Open Gestione DNS avanzata in DOMINIO & DNS.
2. Add a CNAME record. Use www as the host.
3. Use the yaya target as the value.
4. Save the change.

Register.it pages do not mention a final dot. Type the target as yaya shows it.

Use the bare domain

No ALIAS option is documented. Use the www plus redirect route.

1. Connect www.example.com in yaya and add the CNAME above.
2. Open the redirect tool of the Register.it control panel.
3. Redirect the bare domain to https://www.example.com.

Register.it says its redirect works only for records that point to its own server. If you cannot use it, see Move your DNS to yaya. See also Use a subdomain or www.

Add the TXT ownership record

Register.it lists TXT among the types for Gestione DNS avanzata.

1. Open Gestione DNS avanzata.
2. Add a TXT record.
3. Use _cf-custom-hostname.www as the host. For the bare domain, use _cf-custom-hostname.
4. Paste the yaya value as the value.
5. Save the change.

Delete or replace a conflicting record

1. Find the old record for the same host in the table.
2. Change its Valore, or remove the row.
3. Click SALVA.

Register.it applies a zone only when it finds no errors. If there is an error, the old setup stays.

Check the result in yaya

1. Open Website > Domain.
2. Click Check again.

Register.it says changes take 24 to 48 hours. A .it domain can take a few more days. yaya sets up HTTPS on its own. There is no deploy step.

Fix common problems

You see no editor. The domain uses other name servers. Edit the records at that provider.

Your site or mail stops. Restore the old value. Register.it warns that a DNS error can stop a site or mail.
