Keep your email working

Connecting a domain to yaya does not touch your mail. Keep your MX records and your existing inbox.

Your mail stays where it is

Connecting your domain to yaya changes where the website lives. It does not move your email. Mail for you@yourdomain.com keeps going to your current provider, such as Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or your host.

Your MX records decide where mail goes. You do not edit them to connect a site.

Before you switch DNS

  1. Open the DNS settings for your domain.
  2. List every MX record and every TXT record that mentions SPF, DKIM or DMARC.
  3. Take a screenshot of them.
  4. Change only the web record yaya shows. See Switch DNS with no downtime.
  5. Send a test email to your domain address after the switch.

yaya mailboxes

yaya mailboxes live on the business mail subdomain, with addresses at yayasite.com. They run alongside your existing mail, and the shared inbox reads them. See Mailboxes and the shared inbox. The Free plan has no mailboxes, see Plans and billing.

An owner creates one with Create mailbox in Mail setup, which opens from the gear next to search in the Inbox. Owners and editors can read and reply to its mail there.

yaya mailbox addresses end in yayasite.com. For addresses on your own domain, like hello@yourdomain.com, see Set up email on your own domain. To keep your existing email provider, leave its MX records as they are.

To read a yaya mailbox in your current provider, forward it. See Forward mailbox mail to another address.

Fix common problems

Mail stopped after I changed DNS. You replaced or deleted an MX record. Put the saved records back.

I changed my nameservers. Records not copied to the new host stop working. Restore the old nameservers, or copy every record across first.

Mail goes to spam. Check that your SPF and DKIM records are still in place. See Emails not arriving.
